Northern Rivers Audiology is one of the few genuinely independent hearing clinics in the region. We are not part of a national chain, we have no sales targets, and we hold no agreements that tie us to any hearing aid manufacturer. That independence is the whole point. It means that when we give you advice, it is based on your hearing and your life, and nothing else. We provide hearing care across three Northern Rivers towns, Woodburn, Casino and Alstonville. Wherever you see us, you see the same qualified audiologist and the same honest approach.
Northern Rivers Audiology was founded by Nick Robson, a university-trained audiologist with over 14 years of clinical experience. Nick holds a Master of Audiology from the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), a combination that shapes how he works. Hearing is not just a technical problem to be measured and corrected. It affects how you talk to your family, how you manage at work, and how connected you feel to the people around you.
Nick brings the clinical skill to assess your hearing properly and the psychological understanding to talk through what the results actually mean for your daily life. His focus is on ethical, personalised, evidence-based care for every patient, with the aim of improving communication, confidence and quality of life, not simply fitting hearing aids. The goal is always the same: clear answers and practical solutions, explained in plain language, with the time to make sure you understand your options.
In a clinic tied to a manufacturer or working to a sales target, there is always pressure, however gentle, to recommend a particular product or to recommend a product at all. We do not have that pressure. When we recommend a hearing aid, it is because it suits your hearing and your circumstances, chosen from across the major manufacturers rather than from one preferred brand. And sometimes the honest answer is that you do not need a hearing aid yet, or at all. We will tell you that just as readily. Honest advice sometimes means telling you that you do not need to spend money, and we think that is exactly what you should expect from a clinician.
Nick is an accredited member of Audiology Australia, the profession’s peak body, and works to its standards of practice. Northern Rivers Audiology is also a registered provider under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, which means eligible pensioners and veterans can access subsidised hearing services and devices through us.
We hold regular clinics in Woodburn, Casino and Alstonville, working from established medical practices in each town. You can read about each location, including addresses and how to book, on our Woodburn, Casino and Alstonville pages.
